Our Best Wick Testing Advice: For each different candle container, fragrance and color combination you plan to make, make 6-8 of the exact same candles using a different wick size in each one. Label the container with it's specifics and wick sizes. Place near each other on a table, put a sticky note in front of each candle with the wick size clearly visible and take a digital photo of the group every hour as the candles burn during testing. Do this through the entire burn process.
Check for a Good Melt Pool. When you have burned your candle one hour for every inch that your container is across, at it's widest point, (so if your container has a 2 1/2" opening but it is 3" across at it's widest, you should burn your candle for 3 hours to check the melt pool), your candle should have about a 1/2" melt pool. If you don't have a 1/2" melt pool, your wick is too small. If you have more than a 3/4" melt pool, your wick is too large. The pictures are great because you can go back and look at your results later. Don't make your final decision until you see how the wicks perform all the way to the last 1/2" of the bottom.

Top to Bottom: Our wicks are arranged from smallest (top of page) to largest and hottest (bottom).  You'll notice several wicks will work with the same container.  An unscented candle with no color may burn just fine towards the upper end of the container size range, while a candle with lots of fragrance oil (load) and dye will require a larger/hotter wick, so you would choose from lower on the page.  Also keep in mind that the best wick for your 2 1/2" diameter container may end up being a wick that says "test in 3-4" diameter candles"...it just takes some trial and error to figure it out.

Save Time/Money on Shipping!!!: You can probably guess that we don't make money counting out and packaging all those little 25 packs of wicks, we do that so you can purchase many different sizes to begin your testing.  Because many wicks look the same we cannot give you a few "sample" wicks without packing and labeling them individually so the 25 count packs are the smallest available.  We recommend you purchase several wick sizes on one order, to have on hand for your testing.  Small packs of wicks are not heavy and it's much more expensive (shipping!) for you to order more wicks later if that is all you need.   Since we only ship UPS (and all shippers have a minimum delivery charge for even a 1 pound box) you should look around our site and see if there is anything else you need to make your shipping more worthwhile.
